"an enjoyable Regency romance"
Marianne Noble is a companion employed by Mrs.
Middleton, a hot-to-trot widow. While vacationing at
Scarborough, they meet a solitary gentleman named Mr.
Jerome Rivers. Mrs. Middleton sets her cap for Mr.
Rivers, but he is attracted to the shy, retiring
Marianne. At twenty-nine, Marianne has given up hope
of finding a husband, but Mr. Rivers gives Marianne
hope. When Mr. Rivers returns from a trip and
proposes, Marianne hopes her dreams have come true.
Unfortunately, Mr. Rivers is not just a simple country
gentleman and someone wants them dead. NOBLISE OBLIGE is an enjoyable, Regency romance
with believable characters and an authentic Regency
feel. Marianne is a product of her times, a gently
born woman with few choices in life-- marriage or a
job as a governess or companion. At first, Marianne's
insecurities threaten to overwhelm her, but she
overcomes them and grows a backbone. Ms. Connolly
realistically portrays Marianne's growth and
acceptance of her new status. I highly recommend
